Kingsthorpe Conservation Committee

The purpose of defining a conservation area is to 'protect and enhance ' the area.  A small committee of the local residents meet several times a year to monitor planning applications, tree work etc. It also lobbies for improvements in the conservation area.

·   Mike explained the Parish Council is still very new, a range of matters come under their jurisdiction such as allotments for example. Still evolving. There is a Grants Committee which can allocate funds. At the moment the main focus is on re-opening the library.Another focus is to get a Post Office in the area.

·   Heritage Building List -Suggested additions to include the Adelaide Pub, well, plaque, wall behind the postbox, Fremeaux Terrace, Tad Dubraszczyk designed properties on Manor Rd, Railings, cottages on The Green. Village Green is already protected. Suggestions needed

·   Date for AGM – Wednesday 15th March at the Baptist Church rooms at 7

·   New recruits – Request to be placed on AGM agenda

·   Banking arrangements

·   Pocket Park – partially collapsed stone wall on Vicarage Lane

·   High Street/Kingswell Road rat run Dangerous driving, cars speed through. Options for shutting off discussed, previous consultation covered such a wide area that majority voted against. Sleeping policeman option discussed. Road markings outside 1 The Green need to be redone to make clear. Possible option to restrict traffic by redirecting around the little green and/or changing priorities. Discussed concerns around parking on paths, only illegal if opposite a T-junction

·   Church floodlights -Conservation Committee no longer funding due to environmental concerns

·   Contact David Trubshaw about Parish Council and possibility of Heritage type barriers

·       Dates for next meeting 18th April

·       Concerns raised about paving slabs being replaced with tarmac. This practice needs to be stopped before it has a greater detrimental impact on the area.

·       Chapter House extension – Peterborough Diocese still to make a decision, all costings now out of date. Application for Defibrillator to be made.
